Azure PlayFab Multiplayer Servers includes free monthly AMD VMs usage evaluation

Following the announcement of AMD VM availability, we’ve seen great adoption of these VMs across studios of all sizes. AMD VMs are helping developers improve game server performance of up to 40% and at a lower cost.  The new general purpose Dav4 and Dasv4 SKUs are PlayFab's best price/performance ratio on Multiplayer Server (MPS).  Starting April 1st, Azure PlayFab Multiplayer Servers will now include free monthly AMD VM core hours usage evaluation.

The free monthly VM core hours usage is modeled from a 750 single core Dasv4 deployed and operated in the East US and North Europe regions only.  The free monthly compute hours are calculated per the following table:

Instance

Cores

Free Monthly Compute Hours

D2asv4

2

750 ÷ 2 = 375

D4asv4

4

750 ÷ 4 = 187.5

D8asv4

8

750 ÷ 8 = 93.75

D16asv

16

750 ÷ 16 = 46.875

The free monthly Dasv4 compute hours are offered to both new and existing customers effective April 1, 2021.  Customers prior to April 1, 2021 who were granted free monthly 750 Fsv2 and Av2 core hours will continue to benefit their free monthly compute hours evaluation of Fsv2 and Av2 until July 1, 2021.

"We're excited to name the Dasv4 SKU as the recommended VM server choice optimized for gaming", says Lester Jackson, Senior Program Manager of PlayFab Multiplayer Servers.  "Including Dasv4 in the free monthly compute hours evaluation will enable developers to evaluate the Dasv4 SKU and benefit the game server optimizations shared by early adopters.  The generous 90 day migration window will help customers prior to April 1, 2021 migrate their game server builds to the Dasv4 SKU at a flexible schedule of their own with ample time for development and testing."

For customers currently on the Dv2, Fsv2 and Dv3 VMs, we highly recommend switching to Dav4 or Dasv4 as they offer the best ratio of price to CPU performance and more memory than the Fsv2.
