Hello PlayFab community!
My name is Kevin Gammill and I am the General Manager of the new Gaming Cloud initiative here at Microsoft. Hopefully, you’ve seen some of the recent press about our new initiative of which PlayFab is a key part; but if you haven’t, I wanted to briefly introduce myself. I have over 20 years of gaming experience, have played thousands of games, pride myself on beating my teenage boys on any game of their choosing and am looking forward to helping this community develop successful, inspiring games that everyone can enjoy.
Last week we headed to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. GDC was a great opportunity for us to welcome our current PlayFab customers to Microsoft and hear their feedback, share some of our new features and to speak with more potential customers than ever before! If you were at GDC I hope you had a chance to stop by the PlayFab booth, Microsoft booth or the Xbox Lobby Bar to meet some of our expanded team and share experiences. The feedback we collected directly from many of you helps us focus our expanding resources and understand how to improve our services.
I also had the honor of representing Microsoft at the Independent Games Festival Awards Ceremony on Wednesday night. GDC is always a fulfilling week, but the ability to slow down and take a minute to admire the spirit of creativity and independence in the video game development community is truly inspiring. Great games have their creator’s hearts and souls poured into them, and this was evident all week. Congratulations to all the winners!
The IGF Awards are always a great reminder of the imagination of the video game development community, which we are honored to support – regardless of platform. As Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, has said many times “Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.” In this way, our success is tied to your success and we believe that the gaming ecosystem has evolved to put users at the center, so it matters less which device or platform gamers are playing on. Therefore, the best way we can empower your success is by continuing to be device and platform agnostic to help you be where you want to be and when. We remain committed to being device and platform agnostic.
Our team came back from GDC more motivated than ever and it’s just the start of much more. Throughout the year, you’ll hear from us on even more exciting scenarios we are enabling for developers with PlayFab. There has never been a better time to take advantage of everything PlayFab and Microsoft has to offer for game developers as we sharpen our focus and accelerate our work in order to make game developers more successful.
